Artist Statement
Yumi was born in Nagoya, Japan. She came to US in1998.
She is particularly inspired by color, which is so powerful that could give us energy and also depress us. Since she came from Japan, she has been observing cultural and educational difference in art. Education; in Japan, at first good skills are required, and then creativity and novelty will come after. In US, however, enjoying feeling and art is first, and acquiring good skills does not seem to be the first priority. Culture; most of active artists belong to some groups/organizations in Japan, and it seems important and necessary for them. But in US, many varieties of artists (quality and activity) are doing art in their own way. Life in US made her painting more enjoyable and vibrant. She has exhibited in Japan and US. Besides oil paintings, she started stained glass art in US, which was inspired by Louis Comfort Tiffany’s stained glass at a small museum in her home town. Especially she likes colors of glass reflected.
